How a dub works

The same thing a dubbing studio does, without the studio. You get the picture, the line, its exact length and as many takes as you want.

    Hear the line, then say it

    Dubloon plays the original delivery and shows the words. Record yours, and the original waveform sits under your take so you can see where you came in early or ran long.

    Go line by line, take by take

    Every character is colour-coded. Each take is marked on timing, pacing and delivery, or you switch the scores off and nobody is counting.

    Your voice is mixed over the film's music and effects and the whole scene comes out as a video, ready for the group chat.

It plays the dub packs the community already made.

A dub pack is one scene in a folder: the video, its music and effects, and a recording of every line with the moment it starts. Players cut them from the films and shows they love and share them online.

The format comes from Dub Mode in The Choicer Voicer, which runs on Windows and Linux. Dubloon reads the same packs, unchanged, so those scenes play on an iPhone or a Mac too.

How to import a dub pack

Dubloon is an independent app. It is not affiliated with The Choicer Voicer, YeahMaybe or GameBanana, and it does not host or sell any films. Only dub what you have the right to use.

On the Mac, it is an editing suite.

What is Dubloon?

Dubloon is a dubbing game for iPhone and Mac. It plays a film scene with the dialogue removed, shows you each line and how long it lasts, and records your take. When every line is done it plays the scene back with your voice in it, scores your timing and exports the result as a video.

Can I play The Choicer Voicer dub packs on an iPhone or a Mac?

Yes. Dubloon reads the dub pack format used by Dub Mode in The Choicer Voicer, so packs made by that community import as they are: a folder, or a .zip, .7z or .rar archive, from Files, AirDrop or Finder. The Choicer Voicer itself runs on Windows and Linux only. The dub pack guide has the steps.

Is Dubloon the same as The Choicer Voicer?

No. The Choicer Voicer is a voice impression game for Windows and Linux made by YeahMaybe. Dubloon is a separate, independent app for iPhone and Mac and is not affiliated with it. What they share is the dub pack format, so the same community packs play in both.

Where do I find dub packs?

Four scenes come with Dubloon. Every other pack is made and shared by players, mostly on GameBanana under The Choicer Voicer's Dub Mode category. Dubloon does not host or sell any films. Only dub what you have the right to use.

Is Dubloon free?

Dubloon is free to download. Reverse Singing and Home Video Dub are free. Dubloon Pro unlocks Movie Scene Dub with every scene and community pack, Sound Imitation, Booth Cam and scene exports, as a one-time purchase or a subscription.

Which movie scenes can I dub?

Four scenes are included: Camp Rules from Sprite Fright (CC BY 4.0), Awesome in Space from Tears of Steel (CC BY 3.0), A Kindred Spirit from Sintel (CC BY 3.0) and Stuck Up from The Outsider (1951, public domain). After that you can import community dub packs.

Can I share my dub as a video?

Yes. Dubloon exports the whole scene as a video with your voice mixed over the music and effects. With Booth Cam on, the export can show your face in the corner, stacked above the scene or side by side.

Is there a Mac version?

Yes. On the Mac, Dubloon is an editing suite with a sidebar, a lines list, a viewer, a timeline and an inspector, and it works from the keyboard. Dubloon Pro bought on iPhone unlocks on the Mac too, on the same Apple Account.

How do you sing a song backwards?

Record a line of a song, play it reversed, then copy the reversed sound as closely as you can. Reverse your copy and you hear the original song again, in your voice. Dubloon does the recording, reversing and scoring for you, reverse singing is free, and the booth at the top of this page lets you try it now.

Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?

No. Recordings, takes, booth footage and exported dubs stay on your device until you choose to share them. There is no account and no sign-up. The privacy policy has the detail.
